Passing the Halfway Mark

I began this website in September of 2013. It has been a year and a couple of months since I posted my first blog, added book pages and uploaded images. Three hundred and fifty books later I can confidently state that I have reached the halfway mark. With dalliances into author pages and competition books, and other sundry endeavors, which managed to distract me from the core reason for this website, although they did add to a necessary increase in information, I still successfully created pages and images for just over half of the books in the New Canadian Library.

If we use a bit of math, that would mean that in another fourteen months the website should be completed. That would be if we didn’t take into consideration the fact that with each book found, there becomes less and less books available to search out and the difficulty in coming across them increases.

Not all the books in the library are easily available for purchase. In fact some are extremely difficult to find. And perhaps unbeknownst to myself and the readers of this blog, some may not even exist, or, and we hope this isn’t the reality, some may have existed but through time and attrition, have all but disappeared from the world. Perhaps a few titles in the library occupy space only in decades-old landfills across the nation because their owners felt that saving them, or giving them to others, was a waste of their precious time.

Hopefully neither of these realities are true. I would be a minor shame if this website could only become 99% complete. The one book that worries me most is Laugh With Leacock (I mentioned this in a previous post A Missing Book?), a book that I have found in other libraries but never in the NCL. It is supposed to exist as number 176 in the library, a Series Three book, but for myself and everyone else I have been in contact with, it is a ghost.

Although Laugh With Leacock has me worried, it does not reduce my enthusiasm to, and my hope for, finishing this website. I mark it down as an obstacle to be overcome, or at least dealt with, at a future time. Until then, I would like to congratulate myself and those readers that have lent me a hand for a job well done in passing the milestone of completing 50% of the New Canadian Library. And by the way, I counted 681 books,in total, in the library but that could be off by perhaps a dozen more or less.
