Published beginning in 1969, Canadian Writers & Their Works was a direct competitor to the NCL’s “W” series subset. These books were thin like their NCL counterparts (approximately 80 pages) and gave a brief biography of the authors, short chapters dedicated to each of their major works, and a bibliography at the end. The series lasted three years, publishing six books before its demise in 1972.
Forum House, the publisher, an imprint of Coles Publishing, numbered these books, but did not put a catalogue page identifying the set in the pages of the books. The numbering for the books I have found are in the high 500s and 600s, therefore were not sequential in Coles publishing history. Forum House issued books from Toronto, London, Sydney, Aukland, Capetown, and Singapore but these books did not sell well.
I would like to thank Brian Busby from over at The Dusty Bookcase for informing me of the exact timeline of the series and its number of books published.
