Fred Bodsworth was born in 1918 at Port Burwell, Ontario. After graduating from high school he joined the staff of the St. Thomas Times-Journal as a reporter. Subsequently he worked several years as reporter and desk man on the Toronto Daily Star and Toronto Star Weekly.

Keenly interested in all forms of natural history. Mr Bodsworth has made a particular study of bird life which he has observed over the past twenty-five years in all regions of Canada. He is an active member of the Federation of Ontario Naturalists and a keen supporter of its conservation and nature program.

His first novel, Last of the Curlews, was published in 1954 in Canada and the United States, and the following year in England. The Strange One appeared in 1960 and The Atonement of Ashley Morden in 1964. Mr Bodsworth is also a frequent contributor to many Canadian magazines, including Chatelaine, Mayfair, Macleans, and Forest and Outdoors.
